托福詞匯中英美拼寫的差異

　　1) 英國英語單詞中不發音的詞尾 -me, -ue在美國英語拼寫中被刪除。如 : kilogramme/kilogram ( 千克), programme/program ( 計劃), catalogue/catalog(目次)等。

　　2) 英國英語中的以 -our 末端的單詞, 在美國英語中刪去了不發音的字母 u。如: behaviour/behavior( 活動、行動), discolour/discolor( 退色), labour/labor(勞動)等。

　　3) 英國英語拼寫字母 ae 或 oe, 在美國英語中僅留發音元音 e。如: anaemia/anemia( 血虛癥),aeon/eon(永久), aesthetic/esthetic(美學的)等。

　　4) 英國英語拼寫字母 -ll-, 在美國英語只寫-l-。如: chilli/chili(幹辣椒), dialling/dialing(手機撥碼), leveller/leveler(程度丈量員)等。然則, 也有一些相反的例子, 如美國英語中的 appall、instill, distill、installment、willful 等在英國英語中每每只有單寫 l。而 distillery、installation、propeller 等詞的拼軌則在英國英語和美國英語中是雷同的。

　　5) 英國英語詞尾是子音字母加 -e, 而美國英語詞尾是子音字母。如: axe/ax( 斧), blonde/blond(亞麻色的)等。

　　6) 英國英語用 -eable、-ement, 美國英語用-able、-ment。如 likeable/likable ( 討人愛好的), loveable/lovable( 可愛的), judgement/judgment( 審訊), acknowledgement/acknowledgment(認可)等。

　　7) 英國英語中以 xion 末端的詞, 美國英語常以 tion 末端。比方: complexion/complection( 面色), connexion/connection ( 銜接), flexion/flection(曲折)等。

　　8) 英國英語中以 -ise、-yse、-s- 末端的詞, 美國英語常以 -ize、-yze、-z- 末端, 如: activise/activize(激發), advertise/advertize(為……做告白)等。

　　9) 一些英國英語以 re 末端的詞, 美國英語拼寫的次序恰好相反。如, calibre/caliber (口徑), centre/center(中間), fibre/fiber(纖維) 等。
