All students must be able to cover their own personal living expenses, cost of literature, insurance, etc. here in Sweden.

One of the conditions for being granted a residence permit for studies (issued by the Swedish Migration Board) is that you must prove that you will have enough money to cover your stay in Sweden.

The minimum amount required by the Swedish Migration Board at present is SEK 7,300 per month, approx EUR 785 or USD 1,035 (April 2012), for at least 10 months of the year if you plan to study for a full year.

Students from EU, Switzerland and Scandinavian countries do not have to prove that they have SEK 7,300 a month at their disposal, but need to sign a document stating that they can support themselves in Sweden.

Exchange students from other countries may not always be required to prove their financial status but must be prepared to do so if requested by the Swedish Embassy, Consulate or the Swedish Migration Board when applying for a residence permit.
