Tuition fee
There is no tuition fee at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Campus Narvik, except a registration fee each semester to be paid on arrival. This semester fee is paid by all students, both Norwegian and foreign.
Cost of living
Compared to other parts of Europe living costs in Norway are not among the cheapest. A room at a student hostel in Narvik (see below, Accommodation) in the cheapest category (14 m2) costs NOK 3350 per month (2013). Apartments cost from NOK 4230 to NOK 8170. A dinner at the student canteen costs NOK 50-70. A cinema ticket costs about NOK100. A single bus ticket costs from NOK 24. A bus ticket (one way) from Evenes airport to Narvik costs NOK 210.- (2013)
Cigarettes and alcohol are very expensive because of imposed taxes. Restaurants should be carefully chosen. The prices vary a great deal. A glass of beer costs from NOK 60 (for ½ litre) at the cheapest and upwards.
It is also very expensive due to taxes to have and use a car in Norway. One litre gasoline costs from NOK 14.- (2013) Diesel is a little bit cheaper.
According to the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund, the basis for granting a loan/scholarship is an estimated total monthly expenditure (2013/14) of NOK 9400.- (travelling expenses to/from Norway not included). However, if you want to travel in Norway during your stay, participate in expensive leisure activities, make purchases to bring home etc. you should make sure that you bring extra money.
