Stars who aced national exams
The national entrance exam is both a dream maker and a dream breaker, as earning good test scores in it is the only ticket to studying at top-notch universities in China. There’s no way around it, and stars who have graduated from prestigious schools have also sat in the nerve-wrecking test halls.
Here, we provide a few of A-class Chinese celebrities who aced their national entrance exams.
Yang Mi
Actress Yang Mi, who has acted since childhood and often recognized for her somewhat incompetent performances on-screen, was admitted to the Performance Department of Beijing Film Academy with the highest test scores in 2005. Hard to believe but it is the truth. It’s been reported that Yang was busy filming on the eve of the national entrance exam and did not have much time to prepare. She learned a segment from a Spanish dance ensemble and the folk song Nan ni wan just before she sat for the exams.
Jiang Yiyan
As an actress, Jiang Yiyan is praised for her boldness, and as a singer, she is recognized for her sensibility. As a student, Jiang was a hard worker. After passing exams for performing arts, Jiang had only two months to prepare for her "cultural" exams. Jiang and her mother rented a small room nearby the school and began her training "behind closed doors." Her efforts paid off, as Jiang is the holder of the highest test score in "cultural" exams in the history of students who graduated from high school affiliated with Beijing Dance Academy.
Huang Lei
Huang’s parents were both actors, but perhaps performing was too close to his life that he didn’t want to study it at all. Instead, Huang’s interests were in math and sciences. He earned perfect score in chemistry when he participated in his high school entrance exam. During high school, Huang’s math scores were almost always higher than 90 percent, and getting perfect scores in chemistry was not anything out of the ordinary for him. When time came for him to choose his major, despite his interests in chemistry, Huang still took his father’s advice and applied for Beijing Film Academy, where he studied for four years and stayed on to teach even today.
