  Architecture is a charming story with a beginning, climax, and ending. Back in high school, I was attracted by the book of Architecture by Antonio Gaudi which made me fascinated in art. Standing in the streets of Barcelona, Casa Batllo as an elaborate sculpture was inspired by a fairytale. Gaudi’s brilliance in interweaving architecture with fairy tales motivated me to pursue a career path in architecture and bring distinctive structures to the world. With such desire to delve deeper into this magnificent realm, I am seeking for an admission in the graduate program of M. Arch at University of Pennsylvania.

  As deeply inspired by Gaudi, I chose Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), the sole institution in China that provides opportunity to arts students to pursue architecture. Under the tutelage of professors, I was introduced to exquisite architectures and acquired knowledge on concepts, such as the architectural glossary and the tectonic proportion. The study in HUST not only enhanced my innovation and logical reasoning, but also further intensifying my passion towards architecture.

  In De architecture Libri Decem, Vitruvius presented that architecture should present the elemental qualities. With the development of tectonic technology, the solid quality of architecture was no longer a challenge for designer. Practicality, beauty, and story are significant to design. Therefore, I balanced the three elements prioritizing rationality. In the “open architecture” contest, I designed a community for the elderly with features of variability as a huge machine. However, the conflict between these elements pushed me towards extensive research. As such, I delved into studying a brand-new environment and concept. As an exchange student in the University of Technology in Australia, I enhanced my academic skills and cultivated deeper ideas.

  To transform my theoretical knowledge into practical application, I was encouraged by Australian professor to design interesting models with profound context and concept. As my strong intentions of completing the design economically and practically, my instructor displayed concern over the concept and structure of my model. Under her detailed analysis, I was inspired to bring architecture with a story to the world. After resurveying the site, I have generated bright and clear ideas while formulating the concept of negative space.

  Through my experience as an exchange student, I rediscovered the importance of integrating unique perspectives to architecture with its soul in the design concept. With further exploration of architecture, I was attracted by research such as the architectural space in modern city and architectural problems continue to expand in the city. Fortified by my experience in Australia, I harvested design ideas and an adaptable demeanor for a life in a foreign land. As Daniel Libeskind says, “A great building— like great literature or poetry or music— can tell the story of the human soul.” After going through metamorphosis, interest, and change in architecture study, I have forged my belief in creating architecture with an underlying story.

  Returned from Australia, I was chosen to join De Joint CN-NL Urban Design Workshop held by Utrecht University and HUST. Guided by my advisor, Wu Jun, I was chosen to lead the urban planning competition of Hillerod South in Denmark. To further my practical experience, I joined projects, such as the No. 6 Middle School of Wuhan Campus Renewal Project, the Research on Village in the City and high-rise building design, which earned me the award Honorable Mention in Lifang Cup Outstanding Works of Students. With my rich experiences, I served my internship in the Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University and collaborated with the honorable architect Ji Zheng, a student of Peter Eisenman who was a deconstructivist. The discussion with Professor Ji Zheng expanded my views as well as knowledge and motivated me to pursue studies abroad.

  With my extensive practical application skills and academic knowledge, I am eager to assimilate higher level understanding and intensive training from your University. Combining the concept of architecture and story, I intend to study new design techniques and software to transform my ideas into concrete achievements. Your program will pave the way for me to develop knowledge in architecture design, architectural variability, and flexible design. After completing this program, I aim to become a professional architect that contributes my unique style and to establish my own studio in the future.

  1) 受高迪作品影響,本身像要成為一個計劃有故事的修建的修建師;

  2) 在大學賣力進修,賡續念書積聚,從先生那邊懂得到更多巨匠作品;

  3) 本身對做修建模子很賣力,一個模子熬夜做完,尋求完善;

  4) 去澳洲交換,外洋先生的計劃理念給了本身很多打擊;

  5)返國後,踴躍加入實踐,在實踐中賡續進步;

  1)外洋交換閱歷既表現出門生對付外洋教室的順應力,也加強門生的教導配景;

  1) With such desire to delve deeper into this magnificent realm, I am seeking for an admission in the graduate program of M. Arch at University of Pennsylvania.

  2)Under the tutelage of professors who were advocates of Le Corbusier, Ando, and Richard Meier, I was introduced to exquisite architectures.

  3)As Daniel Libeskind says, “A great building— like great literature or poetry or music—can tell the story of the human soul.” After going through metamorphosis, interest, and change in architecture study, I have forged my belief in creating architecture with an underlying story.
