  FINANCIAL AID FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The GSD has a diverse student body, with approximately 35% international students representing 50 countries.

Within the past decade, we have improved our aid options for international students by adding merit and need-based grants, as well as private education loan options. Despite these forms of GSD financial aid, students also must rely on personal funds and/or outside support to fund their education.

Student employment options can vary based on student experience, Visa restrictions, and budgetary constraints within the University. While many international students do work while attending the GSD, the employment options are not easy to predict and should not be counted on when planning options for financial support.

International students who need private loans* to assist them with their costs should consider a number of factors, including:

  potential loan debt

type of job expected after graduation

salary ranges for the part of the world where they plan to live after graduating

any yearly or cumulative loan limits

*Some students will not be able to take advantage of private education loans depending on their country of origin.

  Application Procedures

To apply for consideration of your eligibility for a GSD Need-Based Grant, international students will need to complete our internal financial aid application. Applicants to the MDE program are currently not eligible to apply for need-based grant. The GSD online financial aid system, provides a single link applicants use when applying, viewing and accepting the financial aid package awarded, and accessing various other items regarding your financial aid application, such as information on any pending forms.

While the internal financial aid application is all we require initially for aid consideration, we may ask for more information at a later date. Admitted students will be informed about their financial aid at the time of admission decisions provided they have applied by the deadline. The deadline for applicants to submit financial aid applications is February 5, 2016.

Please review the information below for specific information about additional types of financial aid:

Specific Grant Opportunities - Learn more about additional GSD Scholarship opportunities.

Restricted Scholarships - The Harvard University Committee on General Scholarships administers university-wide grant funds. If you are eligible, please indicate your interest on the internal financial aid application. For more information please review the Applying for Restricted Scholarships page.

Outside Scholarships - Learn more about outside scholarship opportunities that are not affiliated with Harvard University.

Alternative Education Loans - Information regarding alternative loan options will be communicated by the GSD Financial Aid office during the summer prior to enrollment.

Applying for Financial Assistance has no bearing on an application for admission.
