　　Semester fees

　　Semester fees at OvGU amount to € 94,50. This sum comprises:

　　55,00€ „Studentenwerk“ fees

　　33,00€ semester ticket of „MVB“ (Magdeburg Transport Services)

　　6,50€ Student Council (StuRa) fees

　　Costs

　　Spending part of their degree course abroad is desirable for many students… and expensive, at least more expensive than a comparable period at their home university. Allow for at least € 1,000 per month and plan in good time! You can expect to incur the following costs:

　　· possible costs for proof of knowledge of English language TOEFL test (240 US$ as of 2011);

　　· visa costs (up to € 300 depending on destination country);

　　· new passport or passport extension where necessary;

　　· costs for immunisation/immunisation certificate;

　　· travel costs;

　　· accommodation costs (highly variable, but usually up to US$ 600 per month). On-campus housing is often not subsidised and is more expensive than a student room at home. In many places shared two-bed rooms are usual. If you wish to live alone, you must expect to pay more.

　　· Costs for foreign health insurance, which - depending on your programme - must either be taken out compulsorily at the host university or be taken out in advance in Germany (at least € 400 for ten months);

　　· registration fees (approx. US$ 75 to 200);

　　· depending on the region and exchange rate, possible higher living costs;

　　FindingAccomodation

　　If possible, you should start looking for accommodation before you travel to Magdeburg.

　　There are various possible ways of finding somewhere to live, such as seeking accommodation in halls of residence, renting a flat from a housing association or a private landlord, either alone or in a group.

　　Living in a hall of residence

　　To obtain a place in a hall of residence run by the Student Union, you must apply online as soon as possible (i.e. in parallel with your application to attend the university): The application form can be found here.

　　Private accomodation

　　If there is no room available in the hall of residence, other cooperation partners, housing associations and private rental properties are available. See Campus & City (German only ) for more information.

　　Youth Hostel

　　If no accommodation is available when you arrive, we recommend that you stay in the Youth Hostel. Magdeburg Youth Hostel is just a five minute walk from the main railway station. If you show them your letter of admission from the University of Magdeburg, you will not have to pay the annual fee.

　　· Single room - additional €12,00 / person / night (according to availability)

　　· Double room – additional €4,00 / person / night (according to availability)

　　· Guests 27 years and older: €3.00 per night (applies to guests not accompanying minors)
