No tuition fees are charged. This applies to foreign as well as to German students. Only a social fee of about 92,80 Euro for student run university organizations has to be paid each term including a semester-ticket for the city bus in Lübeck.
The Universität zu Lübeck also charges a registration fee of 50 Euro the first time that you register.
Living expenses and accommodation
Living expenses run at a minimum of about 600 Euro per month, including accomodation and health insurance.
Scholarships
Unfortunately, Universität zu Lübeck is not able to offer grants or scholarships to students. As a foreign applicant, you may apply to the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) via the German embassy or consulate of your home country.
Doctorate
Financing
You must make sure that you have financial security for the duration of your doctorate (3–5 years). The Universität zu Lübeck does not award scholarships or grants loans to finance a doctoral programme. In individual cases there are opportunities to work in the institute where you are doing your doctorate. Your supervisor will give you all the necessary information.
For further information regarding scholarships and sponsorship opportunities via the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD/ German Academic Exchange Service) and other foundations or organisations click here.
The DAAD will advise you on where to apply for grants and scholarships and will also inform you regarding conditions of application and dates.
Please only apply for a doctorate at the Universität zu Lübeck if you have sufficient funding.

Once you have found a PhD supervisor and have fulfilled all the above mentioned requirements you may apply for enrolment as a doctoral candidate.
